Baker ski area offers skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, and snowmobilers an annual snowfall of more than 1,000 inches, which ranks as one of the highest on the continent. The Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest and Nooksack Falls are popular destination sites for hikers and backpackers. Rock climbers love to scale the nearby Mt. Shuksan, Table Mountain, Church Mountain, and Artist's Point. You also have Silver Lake and the Nooksack River luring those who like to wet a hook, and the Nooksack's white waters also make for great rafting and kayaking.

For those who like to throw a little sight-seeing into the mix, nearby Bellingham offers a couple of options for exploring the beautiful San Juan Islands. You can sail into the islands aboard a charter boat or take a guided kayak tour.

Other points of interest include the Holmquist Hazelnut Orchards in Lynden, the Mount Baker Vineyards in Deming, and the Black Mountain Forestry Center in Maple Falls.
