Old Fashioned
Green Beans and Potatoes

With ten kids to feed in our family, our mother had to be very creative. We took a vote and every one of us has fond memories of this simple but delicious meal. This is one of our family favorites. We have adjusted the quantities for smaller families.

Ingredients

5 to 6 small potatoes, peeled and quartered

1/2 pound bacon, cut in pieces

One 64-ounce can Allen green beans

Fry bacon in large stock pot. Once it has browned, add the potatoes and green beans with liquid. Add enough water to cover mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover with lid. Simmer for approximately 1 hour or until potatoes are soft. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve with biscuits or just bread and butter.

Serves: approximately 4 to 6
