Ingredients

1/3 cup butter (softened)

1 cup sugar, or slightly less (adjust to your taste or to the tartness of the apples)

1 egg

1 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Tiny dash of ground cloves

A few grains of ground nutmeg

2 cups thinly sliced apples

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Combine baking powder, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Cream butter and sugar. Stir in the egg, and then add the dry ingredients until all is well mixed. Stir in the apples and nuts. Bake in greased 9-inch square pan at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
