Sugared Golden Puffs

Delectable, spicy-rich little doughnut balls, cake-like inside, crusty outside.

Ingredients

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon nutmeg or mace

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup Wesson oil

3/4 cup milk

1 egg

Cinnamon/sugar mixture or confectioners' sugar glaze

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg or mace, and salt. Add the oil, milk, and egg. Stir with a fork until thoroughly mixed. Drop by teaspoon (if too large will not cook through) into deep hot oil or fat (375 degrees). Fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll balls into cinnamon/sugar mixture or dip balls into a thin confectioners' sugar glaze.

Note: You can substitute 2/3 cups flaked coconut for graham crackers if you like.
