  • Directions: From Kahului Airport: Just look for the signs directing you towards Hana and/or Pa'ia.
You'll take Hana Highway (#36) through town of Pa'ia (where you might want to stop and pick up some food) and along the north shore. There are green roadside mile markers which start at '0' in Kahului. They "turn over" after mile 16 and start again at '0' after the intersection of highway #365.

Continue on the Hana Highway until you see the large yellow sign which says "Narrow Winding Road Next 30 Miles." Our road is about 1 mile from this sign, so check your odometer here; this is where you start the true Hana Highway of legend, with its many curves.

At mile marker 3, start watching for L. Waipio Road on your left (sometimes this sign is down). If you don't see it, just keep an eye on the odometer and look for all the mail boxes, a "bus stop" shed, and a telephone. It is a big open space with our road funneling down off it. Turn left down this road - Kaulanapueo Road Turnout. If you pass mile marker 4 on the main highway, you've gone too far.

(If you call us from here, we can guide you in by phone; please feel free to do so if you get lost -- we prefer our guests not to disturb the privacy of our neighbors by asking directions).

Go down L. Waipio Road very slowly (exactly 1/2 mile to the next turn) past the church, and turn left at the red house (palm trees and a sign at eye level on the corner fence post saying "Please drive slow - Children 15 mph). This is exactly 1/2 mile from the top; go another 1/2 mile and look to your right. Just 25 feet before the road turns again, there is a telephone pole (#18) with green reflectors on it. This is the corner of our driveway. You will see a few possible driveways to go down. Look up the coconut palms dividing the driveways; ten feet up you will see a sign that points down into our driveway. Turn right into this driveway, which is marked by red/green reflectors and is closest to the telephone pole #18. The driveway will go downhill and fork.

If you're arriving between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., take the left fork to the Lookout House and drive up to the main house (carport in front). Sharyn, Jeff, Marsha, or Andy will be there to show you in. Please call ahead to tell us what time you'll be arriving or if you'll be arriving later and checking yourself in.

If you're coming after 5:00 p.m. and doing self check-in, the first cottage on the driveway is Haleakala. Go straight ahead about 20 feet and turn into Haleakala's driveway. If you keep going straight ahead at the fork, you'll end up in a small circular driveway outside Star Cottage. If you turn left at this fork, you'll end up at the Lookout House (you'll see the carport) or Rainbow Cottage. To get to the Rainbow Cottage, park in the main parking area, follow the path and steps in front of you down towards the pool, then take the path leading to the right, which takes you through a gate to Rainbow Cottage. Please call to let us know you've arrived.
