Theme parks are are the primary theme in central Florida
with Disney World, with the Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios and
Disney's Animal World in Kissimmee / Orlando. Then there
is Universal Studios Florida and Sea World. This is
definitely a family vacation destination. And for family
size lodging there are vacation rental of every size and
need in and around the Disney World area. Lake Helena
offers historic Bed and Breakfast Lodging in a more rural
setting where you can hiking or bike along country land
and village streets. The Samsung LPGA Golf Championship
held at the prestigious Villages of Lady Lake close to
Silver Springs and Wild Water. Ocala National Forest is
also wonderful for hiking, horseback riding, and biking.
Try the Santos Bike Trails for some off-road biking. The
Austin Carriage Museum, the Appleton Cultural Museum, and
Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing are also interesting
places to visit. The Central Eastcoast of Florida is an
exciting blend of beaches, golf courses and space ports.
Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space center is the launch
point for most of America's spacecraft. Kennedy Space
Center offers an impressive array of rocket displays and
tours. Daytona Beach is world renowned for its beach,
achieved unique fame from its 23-mile, 500-foot-wide beach
which served as a speedway in the early days of the
automobile. Many speed records were set on this beach in
years past. Today it is one of the finest motor-racing
facilities in the country where many auto and motorcycle
races are held including the famous Daytona 500. Daytona
Beach consists of two distinct regions. The "beach
side" barrier peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean is
separated from the "mainland" to the east by the
Halifax River. The Inland Waterway boasts picnic grounds,
an environmental footpath, and a launch ramp for your boat
or jet ski. The famous Flagler Beach Pier is an inviting
place to stroll, fish, or relax, and the winding boardwalk
at Flagship Harbor is an ideal place to view the scenery.
Indialantic sits next to one of the largest sea turtle
nesting areas in the world, and from June to September,
you can bear witness to 300-pound turtles braving the
seashell-scattered beaches to lay their eggs.
