As the oldest home in Clearfield, The
Christopher Kratzer Bed and Breakfast is a Classic Revival
house in the Old Town Historic District.
This graceful home, painted in a warm
yellow with white trim and soft green shutters, was built
prior to 1840 by Christopher Kratzer, a noted lumberman,
carpenter, architect, politician, and owner of the County's
first newspaper. The present owners, Bruce and Ginny Baggett,
remain devoted to their charming home; after several years of
time and attention, it is evident that maintaining this
historic house is a labor of love.
The interior of the house reflects not only
the interest Bruce and Ginny have in preserving history, but
also their personalities. Their enjoyment of many different
styles and periods of furniture is apparent in their mixture
of antiques and fine reproductions with purely contemporary
pieces. This eclectic decor also shows their interest in art
and music; as a professional artist, Ginny has filled the
rooms with an interesting and varied collection of objects
d'art as well as many of her silkscreen prints. Bruce's music
profession is represented also with musical instruments and
memorabilia of more than thirty years of show business.
The guest rooms are as lovingly decorated
as the common areas. Two guest rooms, one with mahogany twin
beds and one with an antique queen-sized spool bed, can be
separate or connecting. A cozy upstairs sitting room with a
color TV converts to a bedroom, and an additional spacious
bedroom with king-sized bed and private bath is also
available. Accommodations include both single and double
occupancy.
A full gourmet delight is always the
morning fare at the Christopher Kratzer House. Start your day
with Bananas Foster French Toast, Spring Green Coffee Cake, or
Pears Caramel. Warm up to a hot cup of coffee, freshly baked
breads, and a good helping of hospitality. |
With lovely views of the river and park,
this town house with its white picket fences, spacious yard,
and large old trees is within easy walking distance of shops,
a public library, restaurants, a movie theater, and the
Clearfield County Historical Museum. Situated near an
abundance of seasonal activities, Clearfield is only an hour's
drive from Penn State's football stadium and thirty minutes
from boating, hiking, hunting, and fishing at Elliot and
Parker Dam's State Parks. Clearfield is also the site of the
annual County Fair and the home of a fine regional theater.
There is a nearby public golf course, and a biking trail is
just out the front door.
Bruce and Ginny Baggett will be glad to
help you plan your visit by providing information about local
restaurants and points of interests, sharing with you the
charm and ambiance of Christopher Kratzer House. |
