  • Directions: Traveling by Car: The Bucking S Ranch is situated half way between the small towns of Alcova and Hanna in South/Central Wyoming. Please call us if you plan on traveling by car and we will give you detailed directions again and also might meet you either in Alcova if you come from the North or in Hanna, if coming from the South. Either way you have a good amount of gravel road coming into the ranch. Depending on the time of the year the roads are in fairly decent condition but a four wheel drive vehicle is certainly the preferred way of transportation out here.
Coming from North Wyoming: From Riverton/Lander you head East on Hyw. 287 to Muddy Gap and from Muddy Gap continue on 220 to Alcova. From Casper you go West on 220 to Alcova. The ranch is 33 mi. south of Alcova and the last 17 mi. are gravel road. In Alcova you go south on county road 407. On the first Y-section you stay on 407 who makes a left turn and follow the signs towards Miracle Mile, Kortes Dam. County Road 407 becomes automatically 291 which takes you all the way to the ranch. There is one more Y-Section at the turn off to the Miracle Mile and Kortes Dam. You go past that turn off and stay straight on 291. From that last Y-section it is about another 7 mi. to the ranch entrance and you passed your first adventure coming to the ranch. It is a really pretty drive and marked as one of Wyoming's Scenic Backways.
Coming from Colorado or South Wyoming: From Rock Springs or Rawlins you take I-80 East to the Elk Mountain/Hanna Exit. You take a left on Route 72 to Hanna. From Cheyenne or Laramie you take I-80 West to the Elk Mountain Exit and go right on Route 72 to Hanna. You go all the way through Hanna to the North/East end of town and take a left on county road 291. You stay on 291 for about 35 mi. and it gets you directly to the ranch entrance. Almost all of it is gravel road. You only encounter one Y-section about half way. You stay left on the main road and cruise on to the ranch.
