| The
New River / Greenbrier Valley Region of West Virginia offers
breathtaking mountain views, incredible whitewater, some of
the states most scenic public parks. In Ansted, the
African-American Heritage Family Tree Museum contains
artifacts of educators Booker T. Washington and Carter G.
Woodson. Nearby, Talcot is home to the Big Bend Tunnel where
legendary steel-drivin man John Henry helped eke a railroad
tunnel through a mile of rock. Take the scenic New River
Gorge train during the fall foliage season for some
spectacular scenery. Lewisburg is one of the West Virginia
towns steeped in Civil War History. White Sulphur Springs at
the 1884 Oakhurst Links is the country's oldest organized
golf club. As you walk the course, sheep graze quietly on
the fairways. Several tournaments are played at Oakhurst,
including the August National Hickory Championship, which
draws competitors, dressed in period costume, from all over
the country.
Skiing
in winter and boating in summer, plenty of places to
fish
and streams to cross.
