The Stagecoach Inn was once a stop over for coach travelers
on their way from Milwaukee to Green Bay, Wisconsin. The bed
and breakfast inn continues its destiny today, after 152
years, as a stopover and a destination for travelers. Brook
and Liz Brown, who have owned the building since 1983, used
the photos from the late 1800's to help in the Inn's
restoration while retaining the beauty of the stone building.
In addition to fine lodging accommodations, the Inn houses a
pub where guests can enjoy beverages and complimentary wine in
the afternoon. Beernsten's Candy Shop is also located on the
first floor.
The Stagecoach Inn's accommodations include nine guest rooms
in the main building plus three suites with in-room whirlpool
tubs in the Weber Haus across the street from the main
building. Two of these suites have the added romance of a gas
fireplace and whirlpool tubs. An 1847 frame house, the Weber
Haus was restored in 1991 to provide the extra accommodations
as well as a secret garden for guests to enjoy. Liz and Brook
have filled the Inn with antiques; sleigh beds, pine armoires
and old trunks furnish many of the guest rooms.
Rates include a breakfast of homemade muffins, coffeecake,
cereal, yogurt, juice, and a special house coffee, served 7:30
to 10:00 a.m. in the intimate pub. Visitors and locals enjoy
the Stagecoach Inn's tin-ceilinged pub. Drinks from the 1850's
bar, which sports a bullet hole from long ago, are often
accompanied with talk of history, while guests sit at vintage
tables. |
An ideal location, the Stagecoach Inn is right downtown
within the Historic District of Cedarburg. It is a short walk
to antique shops, art galleries, restaurants, parks, the
Cultural Center, a winery and the Cedar Creek Settlement.
Your hosts will gladly make dinner reservations and assist
you with a self-guided walking tour of Cedarburg's beautiful
19th-century stone and frame buildings, mills and parklands,
including the last covered bridge in Wisconsin.
Go antiquing or explore the pioneer village, or visit
numerous art galleries. Fishing and boating abound around Lake
Michigan, as well as biking and cross-country skiing. Tennis
courts and golf are also nearby for the recreational
enthusiast.
