The James House is a jewel -- thanks to unspoiled Victorian
architecture and its setting on a commanding bluff surrounded
by the water of Port Townsend Bay. 
This grand Victorian mansion, built in 1889 by Francis W.
James as a gift to his wife, has sweeping views of the waters
and mountains of Puget Sound.
The interior of the house has been exquisitely maintained
and reflects Mr. James' love of fine woods and his attention
to detail. The James House was to become the first bed and
breakfast in the Northwest, and continues today with its fine
tradition of warmth and hospitality.
The James House harbors twelve guest rooms, all with private
baths. Each room is uniquely decorated with period antiques
and most rooms have expansive water views. Fresh cookies are
baked nightly, and sherry is available as an evening aperitif.
A Bungalow on the Bluff, a private getaway for two, is located
adjacent to and operated by The James House. In addition to a
breathtaking water and mountain view, A Bungalow offers the
romance of a fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, and private outdoor
garden. A Hideaway, also adjacent to the property offers great
views, a private patio, kitchenette, fireplace, and sitting
room.
In addition to the romantic location and elegant
accommodations, your stay includes a full breakfast consisting
of seasonal fruit, fresh baked scones or breads, and a main
entree accompanied by juice and your choice of beverage. |
Overnight in this fine old mansion is a reminder of another
era when the bay was filled with sailing ships and downtown
streets were bustling with activity.
Now, a short, pleasant walk from The James House takes you
to the downtown district filled with fine restaurants, shops,
galleries, museums, and waterfront.
Other short walks take you to miles of beaches, delightful
parks, or to the uptown district, where you will find
mansions, historic houses, and beautiful residential gardens.
