Four Columns Inn, a 160-year-old Greek
Revival mansion, overlooks the historic village green in a
storybook Southern Vermont community laced with forested
beauty. In 1999, Country Home magazine selected the
inn as one of the United States' three most romantic, and the
inn's executive chef Greg Parks enjoys a world-renowned
reputation for his unique blend of New American, Asian, and
French cuisine.
The Four Columns Inn accommodates guests
with 15 finely appointed rooms, each with a private bath. Most
of the rooms have fireplaces, and some have two-person
Jacuzzis. The inn's on-site restaurant is as exquisite as its
gourmet fare, and the property's swimming pool always beckons
with its own sparkling blue refreshment. The property's
natural beauty, though, is what truly sets the mood. Some 150
acres of forested emerald green provide full complement of
color as well as endless hours of quiet reflection and
romantic connection.
The recipe for romance is further stirred
by Greg Parks, who has run the Inn's kitchen since 1976. This
culinary artist's culturally diverse cuisine is as pleasing to
the eye as it is to the palate. In fact, Parks' repute
routinely attracts media celebrities and dignitaries to the
Four Columns Inn and continues to draw critical acclaim from
such prestigious culinary institutions as the James Beard
Foundation. You will not only savor a wonderful
continental-plus breakfast, but also sit down to an AAA-rated
Four Diamond gourmet dinner.
The staff at The Four Columns Inn will go
out of their way to make your stay hassle-free. To this end,
they've prepared extensive "discovery maps" that
detail all the many things to see and do in southern Vermont.
You may, for example, want to spend one afternoon shopping for
antiques or visiting some of the area's historic and cultural
attractions such as the nearby Norman Rockwell Museum or the
Mary Meyer Teddy Bear Factory. If so, the map will not only
point you in the right direction, but also provide you
information relevant to your self-guided tour. |
If you plan to visit during the warmer
months, bear in mind that Southern Vermont is well-known for
its summer music festivals. And when the days turn long,
there's nothing better than spending an afternoon picking
fresh berries or taking a winding country drive to Stratton
Mountain and all its surrounding beauty.
Of course, the mountain, 45 minutes away,
offers much more than a pretty face. If you're into hiking or
biking, you'll love Stratton, and when the mountain turns to
powder, it's time to hit the slopes with some of the best
skiing in New England. There's also a picturesque frozen pond
for your wintertime pleasure, and most guests find time to
sneak in a sleigh ride or two. And if that's not enough to
keep you busy, there are some excellent golf courses and
fishing holes nearby.
Four Columns Inn is easily accessible from
New York (4 hours), Boston (2-1/2 hours), and Hartford (1-1/2
hours). Your hosts know what discerning travelers want and
deliver it happily. |
