The White House of Wilmington is a Victorian mansion that
offers you elegant yet relaxed surroundings in Wilmington
Vermont.
The house was built as a summer home in 1915 for the wealthy
lumber baron, Martin Brown. The magnificent structure, with 14
fireplaces, crafted French doors and two-storied terraces
supported by soaring pillars, is as timeless and lovely as the
surrounding Green Mountains.
The Inn's 23
lodging
accommodations, each equipped with private bath, are
beautifully furnished with period pieces complimentary to an
exclusive New England Country Inn. Guest enjoy amenities such
as spacious rooms, fireplaces, balconies or terraces, or large
whirlpool tubs. The Victorian brass and crystal light
fixtures, beautiful woodwork, antiques, and even some of the
home's original wallpaper (which was printed in France in
1912) give the feeling of turn-of-the-century grandeur.
The three intimate dining rooms continue the pronounced
Victorian theme of
The White
House Inn Restaurant and are the perfect surroundings in
which you will enjoy an evening of award-winning gourmet
dining. The menu is a creative collage of classic Continental
dishes. The extensive variety of appetizers and entrees are
meticulously prepared to please the most demanding gourmet.
The lower level of the Inn has been transformed into a
refreshing and invigorating spa, which includes a whirlpool
and sauna bath, suntan room and a small, indoor heated
swimming pool. The White House's southern Vermont location is
ideal for enjoying the numerous four-season activities in the
area. In addition to outstanding downhill skiing and
snowboarding at nearby Mount Snow and Haystack, there is
on-premise a highly rated cross-country touring center with 45
kilometers of thoughtfully groomed trails gliding over high
meadows and forested valleys. The trails range from novice to
advanced. Instructors are on hand to provide you with any
necessary aid and advice. Facilities include a full service
rental shop.
Also on the grounds in a 60-foot in-ground swimming pool
which offers a refreshing retreat on a summer's day. The
formal flower garden accents a heavily blossomed rose arbor
and water fountain. You will also enjoy the natural beauty of
Beaver Brook surrounding the White House. Summer activities
you may enjoy abound on pristine Lake Whitingham where
swimming, canoe and paddleboat rentals are available. Perhaps
a round of golf at the 18-hole courses of Haystack and Mount
Snow, biking at Mount Snow, the mountain biker's home
throughout all of New England, or tennis at one of the many
surrounding courts. |
Set on the crest of a high, rolling hill and surrounded by
towering hardwoods and formal flower gardens, it's readily
obvious why the Boston Herald and New York Times
selected this Vermont bed and breakfast and country inn as "one
of the ten most romantic places in the world."
The White House has been featured in Yankee Magazine
and Country Decorating and shown on the Good
Morning America & P.M. Magazine programs. The
Mobil Travel Guide rated the Inn with three stars "Excellent"
for both dining and lodging. The Boston Herald
exclaims, "One of the ten most romantic places in the
world." The New York Times holds, "In the
Mount Snow area, the White House is known for its superior
accommodations." They can accommodate up to 150 people
for beautiful weddings and consider themselves "Southern
Vermont's premier wedding facility." With rave reviews,
first-class accommodations, mouth-watering dishes, bountiful
activities and quality service, it's no wonder why so many
love to come back to the White House time and time again. |
