From the moment you see Fox Creek Inn, you
will fall in love. Here, nestled in a quiet corner of the
Green Mountain National Forest between Killington / Pico
Mountains and downtown Rutland, lies a true Vermont Country
Inn.
As you cross the trout stream, you begin to
feel a sensation of calmness coming over you, for here you are
separated from the rigors of everyday life.
The earliest part of the Inn was built in
the 1830's. Around 1900, it became one the of the summer homes
of a wealthy inventor, William S. Barstow. You can easily
imagine the Barstow family entertaining their friends the
Fords, Firestones, and Barstow's business partner, Thomas A.
Edison. He and his family came here to enjoy time away from
the rush of urban life. His choice is just as good today as it
was at the turn of the century.
The Inn has eight guest bedrooms, all
featuring king- and queen-sized beds with nice firm mattresses
and fluffy comforters. You will have individual heat control
in both the bedroom and bathroom, plenty of reading lights,
and most important of all, quiet. Each room is decorated in a
different style and has its own bath with enough big towels to
make anyone happy. Most of the accommodations have their own
private spa tub, some of which are two person, and most rooms
also have fireplaces. This is the ideal way to relax after a
tough day on skis, hiking, playing golf, or just for the heck
of it.
Breakfast at the Inn is always an event.
Fresh coffee, brewed decaf, a choice of teas, cold juices with
meals that are prepared with the freshest local ingredients
and designed to suit all tastes and dietary needs.
In the evening you can gather with the
other guests in the den. With its imposing stone fireplace and
large windows on three sides, this is the ideal setting and
time to unwind with a cocktail and peruse the Inn's dinner
menu and wine list in an unhurried atmosphere. In fact, dinner
in itself is a reason to stay at Fox Creek Inn. Choose from an
ever-changing four-course menu and a Wine Spectator
Award-winning wine list. |
In foliage season, everyone compares notes
on the brilliant display of color they have seen and the lakes
and streams that are great for fishing. Naturally, in the
winter, there are always fires in the den and living room
fireplaces. Talk is always of trails skied, sights seen, and
of the joy of time spent outdoors in the beautiful Green
Mountains of Vermont. Winter is a very special time of year
at Fox Creek Inn. At 1,500 feet above sea level, the snow is a
little deeper and a lot whiter. Woodstock, Quechee Gorge,
Middlebury and Manchester are all just a gentle 45 minute
drive away.
Fox Creek Inn is an event more than a
place. From the moment you cross over their little bridge you
will feel a sense of warmth and hospitality that will stay
with you forever. Let your hosts at the Fox Creek Inn show you
how to slow down and look at life from a country perspective.
