The historic Northfield Inn is a
turn-of-the-century mansion nestled high in the heart of the
Green Mountains of Vermont.
Once occupied by a princess, the inn has
been restored to its original Victorian elegance and is just
minutes from Montpelier and Barre, the granite capital of the
world. The Inn is set on a hillside overlooking the village of
Northfield and the historic campus of Norwich University,
America's first private military college.
The Northfield is tastefully decorated with
period and Oriental furnishings, delicate accessories, and
interesting collections. Step back into an era of comfort and
congeniality when people had time for afternoon tea and
pleasant conversation. The library, parlors, TV/video studio,
fitness room, skiers' lounge, and formal dining room with fine
music and a cozy fire will warm your heart on those chilly
evenings and lift your spirit anytime.
The Northfield Inn presents six rooms and
two suites, all elegantly furnished with much love and care.
Private baths, antiques, and brass or carved wood beds with
luxurious European feather bedding and duvets grace your guest
accommodations, creating the ultimate overnight experience.
For your appetite, the Inn serves a hearty,
old-fashioned, multi-course breakfast served on crystal and
bone china. Fresh fruit, assorted beverages, home-baked
pastries, and snacks are available throughout the day. Group
dinners and special events may be arranged in advance.
Relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the
Green Mountains, scenic valleys, wildflower meadows, peaceful
woodland pond, and the antique apple orchard at blossom time.
Stroll through the Historic District to the charming village
and winding river with five covered bridges or hike uphill to
explore the Old Slate Quarry and mountain trails. Savor the
peacefulness of rockers on the porches, lovely gardens,
birdsongs, windchimes, and gentle breezes as you experience
the golden sunsets that bathe the Northfield hillside. |
Enjoy lawn games, golf, and tennis or get
closer to nature as you explore mountain trails, fish, or
canoe nearby. Maybe you would just like to try some old
swimming holes. In winter, take a sleigh ride or snowshoe
through the winter wonderland and enjoy sledding on the
hillside, ice skating on the pond, cross-country skiing or
taking a short drive to Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, or Stowe
for some downhill action. Historic sightseeing and cultural
events abound, including Victorian architecture, the opera
house, and Lost Nation Theater. Antique auctions, covered
bridges, and quaint shops dot the area. New England Culinary
Institute and other fine restaurants are all available for
your dining enjoyment. |
