High in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a haven
of natural beauty called Sugar Tree Inn. Set on twenty-eight
wooded acres at 2,800 feet, the Inn is a place of peace and
solitude.
Panoramic views and cool mountain air make
it a perfect retreat from sweltering summer heat. In the Fall,
the landscape is brilliant with yellows, rusts, oranges and
scarlets from the foliage of the hardwood forest. The Spring
blooms with fragrance and color as the rhododendron, mountain
laurel, trillium and dogwoods flowers appear. Nature
encompasses the Inn, and other guests of the woods include
deer, chipmunks, woodpeckers, hawks and raccoons.
Step inside the main lodge where a massive
stone fireplace rises two stories to the skylight ceiling. The
hand-hewn beams and logs of the Inn are almost two centuries
old, rescued from historic Shenandoah Valley buildings. The
Inn offers nine guest rooms and two suites, all with private
baths and fireplaces as well as individual heating and air
conditioning. Sleep in rustic elegance with comfortable beds,
country quilts and comforters. Some rooms feature whirlpool
tubs, ceiling fans, separate sitting rooms, outside decks and
TV/VCR.
For extended stays or family fun, you'll
enjoy the Creek House, The Log House, The Grey House. or the
new St. Mary's Cabin. These larger accommodations are 1 and
2-bedroom cottages with fully equipped kitchens. Relax on the
deck overlooking the creek or the woods.
Upstairs in the Inn you'll find an eclectic
library packed with serious volumes, silly games and videos
for the guests' use. Downstairs, drop by the Tavern to enjoy
wine, beer or a soft drink. Step out onto the broad front
porch and pull up a rocking chair to view a spectacular
mountain sunset.
Morning begins in the glass-walled dining
room overlooking the wildflowers. A full Sugar Tree breakfast
is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with coffee, teas, fruits,
cereals and rolls accompanying delicious entrees. For early
risers, a continental breakfast can be provided upon request.
Evening fare is available on the weekends to Inn guests and
non-guests by reservation, although weekday dinners are served
primarily to guests. Candlelight, soft music, and Virginia
wines are the perfect accompaniments to the regional gourmet
entrees. |
Nature is yours to discover. Take a hike
on the miles of vistas or walk the Appalachian Trail. Swift
rivers invite canoeing and tubing. Spend the day in Lexington
visiting museums, touring the home of Stonewall Jackson or
browsing in shops. In historic Staunton, you can visit the
fascinating Museum of American Frontier Culture. Along the
back roads of Sugar Tree, explore nearby Crabtree Fall,
Natural Bridge or Goshen Pass with its thousand-foot cliffs.
Don't miss out on the many wineries and vineyards around the
area. Only an hour away are historic Charlottesville,
Monticello and Appomattox.
Your hosts at Sugar Tree Inn invite you to
come experience the breathtaking beauty of this mountain
retreat. Gaze up at the clear night sky and view the Milky Way
without the distraction of city lights. Return to the splendor
of nature. |
