The Funny Farm Inn is an 85-acre horse farm nestled in the
foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nine miles southwest of
Culpeper, just 40 minutes from historic Charlottesville, and
1-1/2 hours from Washington, D.C., The Funny Farm is the
perfect place for a romantic getaway, trail riding and hiking
adventures. Find peace and quiet while horse showing at
Commonwealth Park, sightseeing, searching for real estate, or
just relaxing in front of a fireplace or beside the pool.
Stay in one of three individual houses and one family suite
you can call your own. Each sleeps four to six people, but is
very romantic for a couple. All cottages have full baths,
completely equipped kitchens, fireplaces, outdoor grills, air
conditioning, and cable television with VCRs.
While visiting, guests can enjoy an assortment of resident
dogs, cats, miniature horses, donkeys, ducks, chickens, and,
of course, horses. For those guests who wish to bring horses,
the Funny Farm Inn offers the finest in horse accommodations
with deluxe barn, rings, board fencing, and trails. The inn is
within one hour of seven fox hunts, fifteen minutes from Hits
of Culpeper (Triple A rated), and fifteen minutes from the
Blue Ridge Mountain trail system. The Funny Farm Inn does not
offer rental horses, but your hosts can make arrangements for
guided trail rides on safe horses.
While staying at the Inn, you can also enjoy the Skyline
Drive and Luray Caverns or tour local wineries. A short drive
will take you to historic Monticello, Montpelier, Ashlawn, and
Civil War battlefields. Wonderful antique shops, fine
restaurants, a hiking trail, and superb fishing streams are
only minutes away. |
Two
restored 1800 log homes, sheltered by one of the largest holly
trees in the country, have fully exposed logs, porches, and
decks. They also feature large living rooms (one also has a
sunroom), dining areas, and two bedrooms. The large in-ground
pool is right behind both houses.
The third house, a charming cedar-sided contemporary, has
exposed beams, Civil War hotel doors, and a spectacular view. It
is furnished with antiques and has an extensive library
featuring horse books, many of which are out of print. The house
also offers a master bedroom suite with full bath, two other
bedrooms with shared full bath, a living room, large kitchen,
and dining area. It is a short stroll to the pool.
Each house is fully furnished and equipped, including
linens. The kitchens contain most food staples such as sugar,
spices, pastas, jellies, and jams. For breakfast there are
coffeemakers, fresh coffee, tea, cream, milk, orange juice,
butter, farm-fresh eggs, and a basket of assorted pastries. |
