The Essex Inn Bed and Breakfast is an elegant Georgian
mansion nestled in the heart of Tappahannock, Virginias
downtown historic district of the Northern Neck and Middle
Peninsula of Chesapeake Bay.
Also known as the Roane-Wright-Trible House, The Essex Inn
was built in 1850, and is situated on one of the original
properties of Tappahannock dating back to 1705. This Greek
revival architecture home and bed and breakfast provides
stunning accommodations and historical value, while
maintaining guest comfort.
The Inn, carefully and authentically restored to its
original grandeur, has been furnished with period antiques,
reproductions, and family heirlooms including a baby grand
piano. Eight separate accommodations including four guest
bedrooms and four guest suites feature a private baths. Some
accommodation offer gas fireplaces and kitchens, while two
suites boast private patios. Other amenities include cable TV,
individually controlled air conditioning and heat, hair
dryers, irons, smooth-as-silk ironed sheets, plenty of
oversized soft towels, and bathrobes.
This Georgian style mansion's twenty-foot tall ceilings,
three over four windows with the original glass, and original
wide plank floors give you a sense of a more relaxed time. The
music room and the library are open to all guests and if you
need, Wireless Internet access is available throughout the
home.
A full three-course gourmet breakfast is served in the
breakfast room every morning. Elegantly presented on silver
and china, this three-course meal includes our own blend of
fresh ground coffee; low fat granola; yogurt; seasonal fruits
and/or homemade breads and homemade jellies; and house
favorites such as Belgian waffles topped with seasonal fruit
and served with bacon: or our original Crab N Grits.
Guests staying in "The Quarters" have two options
for breakfast. The full breakfast served in the main house
between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. Or, for those with their own
schedules or looking for more privacy, an extended continental
breakfast including homemade muffins, English muffins and/or
bagels, yogurt, fruit, cereal, and juice will provided in the
suite. Please specify your preference when making your
reservation. |
Guests of The Essex Inn will find an abundance of
recreational activities in and around the inn. Experience the
Rappahannock River, go horseback riding, or spend a day at one
of the local golf courses.
Take a tour of one of the local wineries, take a bike ride
through the country, or explore the antique and specialty
shops.
Day trips can take you to many civil war sites or historic
attractions which include Colonial Williamsburg,
Fredericksburg and the birthplace of General Robert E Lee,
Stratford Hall plantation.
