Welcome to Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast, located in the
Hill Country town of Fredericksburg, Texas.
Five guest rooms and suites, each with private bath, are
uniquely decorated with antique furnishings and appointed with
your comfort in mind. The two suites boast fireplaces and
private entrances. Each lodging accommodation is fully
air-conditioned and heated and has a color television and VCR
with HBO and other premium channels and High Speed WIreless
Internet. Magnolia House Bed and Breakfast soaps, shampoos,
and terry robes are lovingly provided.
Every morning, guests convene in the dining room to enjoy a
signature breakfast, beginning with fresh fruit, homemade
muffins, and juice. The menu changes daily and includes a
combination of waffles, French toast, or crêpes plus
bacon, sausage, and an egg entree. Sweet rolls and the
down-home decadence of biscuits and gravy are often on the
menu. Everything is prepared from scratch and served on
antique china and silver.
The tradition of Magnolia House began in 1923, when the
stately home was designed and built by Edward Stein, local
architect, banker, and designer of the Gillespie County
Courthouse, located in downtown Fredericksburg. Each piece of
lumber was personally selected by Mr. Stein, making Magnolia
House one of the most carefully constructed houses in this
historic area.
Today, Magnolia House has been designated by the Texas
Historical Commission for The Recorded Texas Historic
Landmark.
Restored in 1991, every element of Magnolia House is in
keeping with the grand interior and comfortable family
lifestyle of the original living quarters. Guests are invited
to relax on the patio, which surrounds the Koi pond and
waterfall, or on the wicker-furnished porches. The kitchen has
original antique glass cabinets, a working cistern in the
butler's pantry, and built-in iceboxes with wooden doors.
Thoughtful amenities such as fresh flowers, home-baked snacks,
and complimentary beverages add to guests' pleasure.
