Colorado River runs through it ... Bastrop, Texas is located in Central Texas 30 miles east of Austin. It is the County Seat for Bastrop County. Rich in history and natural beauty, Bastrop was almost the capital of Texas but was beat out by what was then known as Waterloo and later known as Austin. Bastrop has a rich heritage, pines, prairies and a beautiful river valley. People come here for the local flavor, rodeos, festivals and art shows. Three 18 hole golf courses are within just a few miles of downtown Bastrop. A beautiful State Park is a favorite family gathering place and the town has one of the oldest Opera Houses in Texas. Charming historic home surround Main Street that opens to antique stores and shops. Chestnut Square offers movie theatres, bowling, pool tables and an arcade room. Hiking trails and a walking trail from Fisherman's Park to the other end of downtown Bastrop give way to plenty of outdoor fun.
