About:
Artist JoAnne Bedient
Bold
contrasting color, drama, whimsy and graceful forms drive my
work. I work in series and enjoy being playful with the
subjects I choose. All are hand built and raku fired clay. As
with many artists, the interest was always there, but it was
not until my college days at Ft Hays Kansas State University
that I discovered that clay was my medium and was a gift for
me to mold and share!
I began to
think in terms of how I could make anything from clay that was
usually made from other materials. The clay shoes started that
way by looking at a bright red patent leather pair of shoes
that my daughter bought at a 70's resale shop. From then on
the shoes practically made themselves as if I had the
shoemaker's elves working with me. My work seems to be
friendly and the pleasure it brings to those who own it is my
joy!
