About:
Artist Herb Williams
A
2004 Nominee for the prestigious Joan Mitchell Grant, Herb is
a celebrated Tennessee-based artist who creates original
contemporary art in a variety of mediums. His most recent
sell-out exhibition featured a musical installation created
from seventy thousand crayons, in three shades of blue,
entitled, the blues. Interested in sculpting with pure color,
he seeks out unconventional mediums to create images that are
profoundly linked to the human condition, from sculptural
shoes to clothing to wine bottles.
I
think that artwork can be humorous and even downright fun, yet
still be viable in the midst of what is considered "art"
today. This series of paintings, titled "double exposure,"
are my attempt to give a few artists a chance to interact.
Steve Martin's play "Picasso at the Lapin Agile"
inspired me to create the residue of what would happen if a
few of my favorite artists throughout history sat down and had
a drink together. My intent is to continue to create art,
which is not a commodity, but a necessity.
