Artist Juanita Tumelaire

After
earning her bachelor degree, Juanita joined the Peace Corps.
There began her travels through many countries across the
world. She taught English as a Second Language and was art
editor of Any Boluntaryo as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the
Philippines. From there she traveled overland through Asia,
the Middle East, and Europe before ending up in Boston. For
several years she and her husband lived abroad after finishing
their graduate degrees. They spent time in Afghanistan, Iran,
and Nepal. She taught, and then became Dean of Students at the
Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in Massachusetts.
Juanita
studied printmaking, and became a founding member of Partners
in Printmaking, a group of women exhibiting in the Boston
area. Juanita became a full time artist after relocating to
Chattanooga. She currently exhibits, as well as conducts
printmaking residencies through Association for Visual Arts,
Allied Arts and The Tennessee Arts Commission. She is the
President Emeritus of Association for Visual Arts. In addition
to having work in the archive of the National Museum of Women
in the Arts, she was awarded the N.A.W.A. Genius Foundation
Medal of Honor in Printmaking.
