The
Great Lakes Region of South Dakota runs down through the
center of the state along the Missouri River that transpires
between the gentle rolling ranch country with cattle ranches
where buffalo once roamed of the west and the high plains of
the east with miles of wheat, grains, corn and soybean crops
are raised. The most prominent feature of this region is the
Missouri River and its tributaries. The mighty Mo is the
path of travel for wild life where million of geese and
mallard follow its pathway to the Gulf of Mexico. The ruins
of the Fort Randall Chapel military post near Pickstown
provide an excellent look into the area's historical past.
Memorials to Sitting Bull and Sacagawea are found near
Mobridge. American Indian tribes maintain buffalo herds and
hold powwows and expositions to preserve their rich culture
and traditions.
Bed
