Welcome from the people of South Dakota!

Time is an important commodity today, and we're glad you're considering spending a part of your time here in America's heartland. On behalf of the over 700,000 friendly folks in the 16th largest state (geographically) in the union, I invite you to visit our land of infinite variety.

You will find our hospitality and service second to none. Add to this the many interesting sites and activities, our rich history and cultural diversity, a medley of land forms with lots of back-to-nature get away places, and you have the elements for a unique travel experience. Depending on the time of year, you can enjoy water sports, camping, fishing, and hunting (we are famous for our pheasant season) all along the Missouri River. You can enjoy hiking, trail riding, and camping in our beautiful Black Hills National Forest. In the winter, the Hills provide some of the most scenic snowmobiling, cross country and down hill skiing in the country -- all set in the heart of the old "wild west". Here you will also find two giant mountain carvings, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument.

Border to border, plains to lakes to mountains, wheat fields to Badlands, South Dakota has something for everyone. We look forward to sharing South Dakota with you. We'll leave the light on.
