This imposing three-story Georgian house, which has graced the bank of the Sampit River since 1765, has a long and storied reputation for welcoming travelers across the globe. Sailors say the distinctive red roof is visible three miles out across the bay and that the once plentiful sailing ships aligned their wheels to that brick-colored beacon when seeking entry to the harbor.

Situated on a gracious bluff amid magnolias, camelias, hydrangeas, and the sheltering arms of live oaks, the house has been immaculately restored to its former grandeur and blends the romance of the past with the convenience of the present. Oriental carpets, heart of pine floors, colonial molding, and family antiques leave traces of yore to recognize and remember. Shrimp and crab dip and adult beverages are offered in the afternoon as you watch the sunset over the harbor from one of the porch rockers.
