Situated in the midst of Charleston's premiere private
residential district, just twelve houses from the Battery, the
Hayne House welcomes guest with Southern hospitality. Built in
1755, the home is associated with Revolutionary War hero Isaac
Hayne. The Bed and Breakfast has been featured as one of the
top five inns in InStyle Magazine, as one of top three
inns in the February 2002 edition of Travel Holiday,
and as one of three highly recommended inns in Charleston in
Fodor's Best Bed and Breakfasts in the South.
Today a breathtaking bed and breakfast, the building is one
of the oldest wooden houses in Charleston. The house is
surrounded by some of the most noteworthy 18th- and
19th-century houses in America, including the Miles Brewton
House (ca. 1769) directly across the street, which served as
British headquarters during the Revolution, and the Nathaniel
Russell House (ca. 1808), which is one block away.
The Hayne House is furnished with family antiques and
artwork, much of which has been in the owner's family for
generations. Six guestrooms and suites feature premium
designer bed linens and Turkish cotton bathrobes. Lots of good
books and music (no television) is offered for your relaxation
and enjoyment. The private courtyard garden with fountain as
well as the piazza and swing provide a quiet haven.
A full Southern breakfast is served on English porcelain,
sterling silver, and Waterford crystal in the formal dining
room each morning. Join the owners and concierge for afternoon
sherry in the Drawing Room. They will be happy to make all
your arrangements for dinners and tours.
With championship golf, tennis, and swimming within twenty
minutes, guests will have no trouble finding recreation in the
area. Located in the heart of Charleston's historic district,
the neighborhood offers a vivid cultural and historic
background. Spend a day surveying the area, finding at an
intimate bistro, or popping into the unique stores that dot
the area. |
Innkeepers Brian and Jane McGreevy and their children invite
you to sample Southern hospitality at the Hayne House. Brian,
who grew up in Charleston and worked with the Historic
Charleston Foundation as well as the National Trust for
Historic Preservation, will be happy to tailor an itinerary
around your interests and help you find the hidden charms that
make Charleston such a special place.
In the tranquillity of
this historic neighborhood, secluded from the hustle and
bustle of the Market district, you can awake to the sound of
St. Michael's bells chiming in the distance, just as they have
for more than 200 years, and the scent of Confederate jasmine
in the air. This ideal location is two blocks from the antique
shops of King Street and within easy walking distance of
shops, restaurants, and museums. |
