Professional Association of Innkeepers International
the North American Association for B & B/ Country Inns.
The Professional Association of Innkeepers International
(PAII) is the world's largest professional association for B &
B/country inns. PAII's mission is to support the innkeeper in the
field by publishing the widely read "innkeeping"
newsletter, as well as numerous other publications, a biennial
international conference and programs specific to the business of
innkeeping.
WHAT DOES PAII DO
- Increase the understanding of this growing industry
by offering up-to-date, cutting edge publications and
training--specifically on the bed-and-breakfast/country inn
business.
- PAII is sensitive to the issues of the working innkeeper
with a staff of six, 25 Advisory Board members, 30 membership
representatives, and 48 affiliate associations, we are involved
throughout all parts of the lodging industry. This
member-responsive group listens, finds answers
and creates publications to keep you abreast of what is
happening. PAII doesn't just take what others have written in
the travel industry, but examines it from the innkeeper's
viewpoint and translates IRS, ADA, AAA, AH&MA, NRA, etc.
into language that you can apply quickly and easily.
- You can access the expertise of other associations
through PAII. PAII works in concert with other national,
professional, and hospitality associations to share expertise,
pool resources and keep the voice of inns actively heard not
only educationally, but legislatively. Design of job
descriptions meeting ADA requirements, linking PAII's Hotline
files with AH&MA and Cornell University's library
system--are just a few examples.
- From Burn Out to Winning with the IRS to financial
and guest information--PAII mails thousands of pages of helpful
material to the media, aspiring innkeepers, members and
non-members, vendors, college students and universities, and
even the U.S. and Canadian governments. Over 3500 people every
month read the very practical, information-packed innkeeping
newsletter. Thousand of people a year hear from PAII staff in
workshops and conferences around North America.
- Supporting innkeepers and aspiring innkeepers with
one-of-a-kind research to validate their operations to
bankers, appraisers, accountants, the SBA, media, zoning
officials, fire departments, and the IRS. All want to be assured
that this is a real business. PAII has statistics to prove
it--from who is the guest, to what do inns sell for, to how much
inns spend on food.
- Link people together to create a more cooperative,
harmonious and powerful industry. This is the hardest one
to explain, but it happens every day. Innkeepers, by the very
nature of their locations and the time needed to run an inn, are
isolated from one another. From introducing the inn associations
in Maryland, Louisiana, and New York to the person working with
the New Jersey Fire Commissioner on modifying the fire code for
inns--to giving a member the name of another member who does
murder mysteries--to association leaders who now know each other
and talk regularly about mutual issues.
