New Hope's Wedgwood Collection of Historic Inns, with a
Three Diamond rating from AAA and a Mobil Travel guide quality
rating, has been offering bed and breakfast lodging since
1982. The Inn is conveniently located ten miles off I-95,
midway between New York City and Philadelphia, in pastoral
Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Carl and Dinie have renovated three 19th-century homes on
over two acres of landscaped grounds in New Hope's Historic
District. In each house, a parlor with fireplace is always
welcome to guests, where one can find good books, board games,
menus from local restaurants, area information guides, and
friendly conversation. Although only a minute from the
bustling artists' colony, the inn offers a pastoral respite
with gazebos and picnic tables shaded by century-old trees
brightened by colorful flowers which border the expansive
lawns.
Each house shelters seven guest rooms, all distinctive in
style and decor. The large and finely appointed guest rooms
are the perfect union of the period charm of lofty windows,
hardwood floors, brass ceiling fans, antique furnishings,
original art, Wedgwood pottery, and handmade quilts and modern
essentials such as color cable TV, Wi-Fi, private baths and
air conditioning. Many have oversized or four-poster canopy
beds. The eight fireplace suites, each with a two-person
whirlpool tub, are ideal for special occasions. Extra touches
in all accommodations include fresh flowers, additional
pillows, scented English soaps, and plush towels. Several
other rooms have a private porch, deck, or kitchenette. A
separate, two-story Carriage House features a four-room suite
with a fireplace facing a two person Jacuzzi.
Your day at Wedgwood begins with a breakfast of
fresh-squeezed orange juice, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit
salad, home-baked muffins, breads, pastries, hot croissants,
and just-made coffee and tea. Breakfast is served, on Wedgwood
china (of course!) at a table for two, or breakfast-in-bed is
always an option too. Evenings wind down in conversation with
other guests out in the gazebo or before the parlor fire and
conclude in the comfort of your room as you savor the mint
left on your pillow with a tiny glass of Carl's (secret
recipe) almond liqueur. |
A river community founded in 1681, New Hope is registered as
a National Historic Site. You can absorb three centuries of
architecture and history while leisurely exploring its
historic sites, museums, covered bridges, art galleries,
restaurants, flea markets, and numerous craft and antique
shops.
The inn's grounds were the site of a Revolutionary War
encampment in December 1776, just prior to George Washington's
famous crossing of the Delaware River. Hike or bike along the
wooded trails and country back roads of the beautiful state
parks and gently rolling countryside. Swim, canoe, or go
tubing down the lazy Delaware River.
In winter, cross-country skiing and ice skating are popular
activities. Fabulous pool and tennis club facilities are also
available at a nearby private club.
Come experience a piece of the past at The Wedgwood Inn of
New Hope, where you can make a new piece of your very own
history. |
