Adam's Apple Strata

Ingredients:

8 slices French bread, cubed

1-1/2 cups white sharp cheddar cheese, grated

1 cup chopped Virginia ham

Pepper to taste

4 apples, sliced thin and rolled in cinnamon sugar

8 eggs

1-1/2 cups milk

1/2 teaspoon dry or Dijon mustard

Worcestershire sauce to taste

1/2 stick butter, melted

1 teaspoon nutmeg

Layer in order: half the bread, half the cheese, all of the ham (sprinkled generously with fresh pepper), all of the apple slices, the remaining bread and remaining cheese. In a blender, combine the remaining ingredients except the butter and nutmeg. Pour mixture over the casserole and top with the melted butter and nutmeg. Refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered in a 350-degree oven for 45 to 60 minutes or until firm to the touch.

Serves: 6 to 8
