Guests are invited to stay in the spacious suite accommodation on the third floor. Charmingly decorated, it offers an intimate sitting room, private bath, two bedrooms and a kitchen. Two bedrooms on the second floor are occupied separately and share a bath and breakfast room. Come relax on the porch, shaded by the trees or sleep late one morning. Your hosts want you to define your own enjoyment.

The kitchens are stocked with food requested by guests. For breakfast, you can serve yourself some sunny-side up eggs if you like, or if you'd rather eat yogurt and granola, your hosts can provide that too. They go to great pains to see that you're stocked with your breakfast preferences.

The Garret makes a perfect stay for Nittany Lions fans. It is just twenty minutes north of Penn State. Nearby state parks offer scenic hikes and outdoor activities. Make sure you don't miss visiting the Gamble Mill Tavern for gourmet cooking and drinks.

Your hosts aim to provide you with the red-carpet cordiality and refined hospitality of a bygone era.

The house was built in 1860 by a Philadelphia jeweler. He later sold it after his wife's death to go fight in the Civil War. The house has played host to many, including Underground Railroad refugees. The property was later acquired by S.T. Shugert, a Pennsylvania legislator and long-time Bellefonte newspaper editor.

Originally a four-square Georgian-style house, it was aggrandized with bay windows and a kitchen wing in 1892 at the height of a fussier Victorian era. In the past three decades it has been part of the Bellefonte Woman's Club Big Spring Homes Tours. It also has been a favorite stop in several Victorian Homes Christmas Tours, and in 1995 was celebrated in Bellefonte's Bicentennial.
