Mount Nittany

Mount Nittany is the Centre Region's and Penn State's most prominent natural monument. It is a striking reminder of the beauty of the area and provides exceptional views of the communities below from several natural overlooks. A hike on trails through its woods is rewarding in any season, with a diverse assortment of trees, flowers, and wildlife. You can help continue to preserve Mount Nittany from encroachment for the benefit of future generations by becoming a Friend of the Conservancy -- buy a "life estate" deed for one inch of Mt. Nittany.

Hiking By the Season:
Spring
Mid-may is ideal. Pink azaleas have burst forth on upper areas. Migratory birds return.
Summer
Mountain laurel is in full bloom. Yellow false foxgloves and blueberry and blackberry bushes are common.
Fall
The diverse assortment of trees show vivid colors. Witch hazel bushes yield yellow flowers.
Winter
Leafless trees along ridge trails allow spectacular views.

Directions:
Take US Route 322 to State College; follow signs to Lemont. Take Pike Street to Mt. Nittany Road. Preserve and trails begin in Lemont at end of Mt. Nittany Road.
