Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

5 cups cooking apples (preferably Granny Smith) peeled and sliced

1/3 cup water

3/4 cup flour

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Pinch salt

1/4 pound (1 cup) butter

Cream

Dash nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread the apples in a buttered 1-1/2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle the water over the apples. Place flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together in a bowl and rub in the butter with your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse cornmeal. Spread mixture over the apples and bake until brown, about 40 minutes. Serve with warmed, heavy cream to which a dash of nutmeg has been added.
