The Pennsbury Inn, built on acreage
purchased from William Penn's Commissioners in the seventeenth
century, is a historically prominent bed and breakfast in the
Brandywine Valley of Pennsylvania offering exceptional lodging
accommodations and decadent breakfasts.
The original dwelling was erected in 1714,
with various enlargements made throughout the years. The Inn
is situated on eight acres of sculptured grounds bordered by
woodland trails, offering privacy for special events and
catered parties.
The Pennsbury Inn's four sitting rooms,
seven bedrooms, dining room, and landscaped grounds
comfortably blend colonial heritage with casual elegance.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Inn is
a large but cozy retreat with uneven floorboards, slanted
doorways, winding staircases, and huge open fireplaces. An
extensive collection of antiques and old books add to the
Inn's inherent charm. Featured in Colonial Homes, Travel
and Leisure, and both the NY Times and LA
Times travel sections, the Pennsbury Inn is one of Chester
County's showcase properties.
All of the guestrooms have feather beds,
telephones, cable television, and lovely private bathrooms.
Many rooms also feature decorative fireplaces with electric
firestove inserts. With a private winding staircase, the Lafayette
Room, the oldest bedroom in the house, offers
characteristic comfort. The antique headboard of the king bed
is the centerpiece in the Four Seasons Room, a
spacious room with a garden view and large closet. The Winterthur
Suite has a private entrance hallway and Palladian
window overlooking the formal gardens. Whichever of the seven
rooms you choose, you are guaranteed a comfortable stay with
classic furnishings and modern amenities.
Each morning, sit down to your choice of a
full country or continental-plus breakfast.
Within the immediate vicinity of the inn,
you are offered a host of attractions to make your stay
complete. The Brandywine River Museum is just a short drive
away, as is the Winterthur Museum, offering fine American
antiques and gardens. |
Chaddsford Winery and the Brandywine
Battlefield are nearby as well. Baldwin's Book Barn, featuring
rare and old books, maps, and prints, is just minutes from the
inn, as are dozens of antique shops. For the sports
enthusiasts, the Pennsbury Inn is located minutes from
excellent horseback riding, canoeing, and golf.
If you wish to venture a bit further, the
Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Delaware Museum of Art, and
the Hagley Museum of Art are all less than 20 minutes away.
Discover the horse and buggy life of the Amish, just a scenic
40-minute drive from the Inn. Approximately 50 minutes away
you will discover the Barnes Foundation, a stunning collection
of art. |
