The Bed and Breakfast at Walnut Hill is located in Kennett
Square along the Red Clay Creek midway between historic
Philadelphia and quaint Lancaster County, home of the Amish.
Each is an interesting 45-minute drive from this historic mill
house.
Walnut Hill was built in 1840 by the Chandler family on land
that was originally granted by William Penn to his daughter
Letitia in 1701. The mill was built in the meadow in front of
what is now Walnut Hill about 1760, and during the
Revolutionary War, the Queen's American Rangers camped on the
hillside opposite the property while enroute to the Battle of
Brandywine.
Today, Walnut Hill offers a choice of three cozy
air-conditioned accommodations: a Laura Ashley double, a
Victorian wicker single and a wing with a king-size bed which
may be converted to two twin beds. Enjoy the privacy of a
graciously appointed parlor, a common room for visiting and a
seasonal wicker-filled porch with a swing from which to view
the tranquil meadows. By limiting nightly accommodations, Tom
and Sandy offer individualized attention to their guests,
making your stay a special event. They take time sharing local
lore, mapping out tours and points of interest, securing
reservations for you or just visiting. Free wireless Internet
is available throughout the house as an added convenience.
Sandy, a former winter docent and also a recognized cook,
has been featured in Good Housekeeping's Christmas
issue. She takes pride in offering her guests a choice of a
variety of culinary delights including cottage cheese pancakes
with hot blueberry sauce, fresh mushroom omelettes and real
French toast. All breads and spreads are made the
old-fashioned way.
Local points of interest include world famous Longwood
Gardens, Winterthur, the Brandywine River Museum, Chaddsford
Winery, Brandywine Battlefield, Hagley Museum and Nemours, all
within an eight-mile radius. Just minutes away are diversions
including canoeing down the Brandywine, floating above the
valley in a hot-air balloon, horseback riding, golf and
tennis.
Starting in April, enjoy the scenery and challenges the
Brandywine Valley countryside offers and play one of our
interesting championship golf course. We tailor your interests
to a course you will enjoy and at the discounted prices only
the locals know about. |
