Glenlaurel Inn -- a playground for dreamers, a gateway for
adventurers and a hideaway for romantics. This Scottish
country inn and cottages, named "one of 25 favorite
destinations" by Midwest Living Magazine in 2003,
are the perfect place for anyone in any season. Firmly
anchored on a ridge overlooking Camusfearna Gorge, the Manor
House, nearby Carriage House and secluded crofts and cottages
have the look of the Scottish countryside and the feel of
times gone by. A six-page highlight of this cozy inn in the
February issue of Country Inns magazine reveals to you
a bit of its mystery, intimacy, and beauty.
Glenlaurel Inn offers a choice of three different settings
-- the Manor House, the Carriage House, and its Cottages on
Thistle Ridge. The eight stone fireplaces of the Manor House
and its guest rooms offer toasty warmth and relaxing ambiance.
A double whirlpool tub in each private bath overlooks the
woods and engulfs the sensuous with soft light and music.
Queen-sized beds piled high with white goose down pillows and
comforters shut out the world and invite delight in a place
apart. The woods view above each writing desk carries the
author into memories, daydreams and thoughtful repose.
The Crofts and Cottages of Thistle Ridge offer even more
seclusion and intimacy. Tucked away in dense woods, each
cottage features an open-air hot tub on a private deck, a
king- or queen-sized bed, two-person shower, a kitchenette and
a gas log fireplace -- the perfect retreat for privacy and
companionship.
By morning, treat your taste buds to a full gourmet
breakfast. Try a stack of warm Belgian Buttermilk Waffles
topped with maple cream and strawberry-rhubarb sauce. In the
evening, dine in the Edinburgh Dining room with its
hand-carved mantle and hewn table for ten. Or, try an alcove
for two in the Glasgow Dining Room with views as wide as the
sky. Weeknight dinner consists of a leisurely five-course
fixed entree delight, such as Grilled Swordfish with
orange-saffron sauce, seared Tenderloin of Pork rolled in
herbs and wrapped in puff pastry, or Fillet of Salmon dusted
with freshly ground peppercorn and fennel seed. Glenlaurel
Inn's seven-course signature dinner is served every Saturday
with considerable flair. The current entree is Rack of Lamb. |
Glenlaurel Inn's true treasure lies not within its stone and
wattled walls, but in the 140 acres of woods and paddocks on
the way to trail's end. It's through the Hemlock and Trillium,
past the picnic luncheon hideaways, deep in the rocks of
Camusfearna Gorge.
