The Stonehouse in Essex is a graciously restored 1826 Georgian stone house nestled on a tree-lined street. This historic hamlet of Essex and the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain create a wonderful getaway for resting and renewing. Antique furnishings recreate the ambiance of an English country house.

Two large master suites are offered, each with private bath and queen-sized bed. One of these suites has a delightful deck from which you can survey the beauty of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains. Two guestrooms share a bath; one furnished with twin beds and the other with a double bed. These rooms are the ideal stay for a group or family. Linens, toiletries, and turn down service are provided, as is the promise of hospitality and tranquility throughout your stay.

A self-contained guest cottage on the property is available. Sleeping six people, this two-story Adirondack cottage contains two larger bedrooms, a living area with deck, two bathrooms, summer dining room, kitchen, and patio with barbecue grill. This accommodation is ideal for two couples or a family.

Enjoy breakfast in the elegant dining room or on the sunny and spacious garden terrace. At the end of a fulfilling day, wine or tea is offered on the candlelit porch, a wonderful way to unwind and get to know fellow guests.

Essex is a town to walk, bike and enjoy. Take a walking tour and browse through fine art galleries, antique emporiums, and craft and gift shops. Indulge yourself at the local ice cream parlor near the inn, or have a tasty cup of afternoon tea in this delightful lakeside setting. If you are feeling energetic, you can enjoy a brisk dip in the crystal clear lake, hike the Adirondack Mountains, bike, fish, or even rent a boat. Tennis and golf are also available nearby. During your stay, you can enjoy casual waterfront dining or fine French bistro cuisine, both with breathtaking views. If you wish, take the ferry to Vermont. However, you may not want to leave the tranquility of the garden or of The Stonehouse.
