The Alpen Haus Bed and Breakfast is located in the Berkshire foothills of Amenia, New York. The bed and breakfast inn is new and very "homey" and comfortable, with central air conditioning throughout. All lodging accommodations have private baths, and a 60-foot deck is off the back overlooking the valley and town of Amenia. Weather permitting, breakfast will be served on the deck off the formal dining room.

Ski buffs especially will enjoy staying on the "Alpen Haus" because the bed and breakfast is just 30 minutes away from the Catamount and Mohawk ski resorts. The nearby Harlem Valley Rail Trail, a one-time railbed, makes for great cross-country skiing and is also a popular destination site for hikers and bikers. Hunters and fishermen enjoy the scenic Ten Mile River, which flows through the neighboring Wassaic State Forest Multiple Use Area. Several golf courses and facilities for bowling, horseback riding, and camping are also close by. The many antique shops and farmers markets make for a less strenuous, yet just as enjoyable, holiday.

Other points of interest include Hyde Park's Roosevelt Library and home; the Culinary Institute of America; Vanderbilt Mansion; Audubon Center in Sharon, Connecticut; summer theater at Vassar College; the world-renowned Tanglewood Music Festival in Stockbridge, Massachusetts; and the Cascade Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

Just two hours from New York City, 1-1/2 hours from Hartford (Connecticut), and 3-1/2 hours from Boston, Amenia is convenient to many Northeast attractions. A train station just two miles south of Alpen Haus offers convenient MetroNorth train service to and from Grand Central Station.
