The Capital - Saratoga Region, as it name says, is where Albany the state capital of New York resides. Here you can take a guided tour of the Capitol building, located on State Street, which was completed in 1899. Walk through the adjacent Empire State Plaza, where you can enjoy viewing mammoth contemporary paintings, part of the largest public modern art collection outside of a museum. Drive through the countryside to Shushan in Washington County north to Shushan and you are traveling through the area that inspired legendary folk artist Grandma Moses. The red and sugar maples, which produce some of nature's most brilliant autumn colors, are plentiful here. At the hamlet of Shushan, visit the Shushan Covered Bridge Museum, a covered bridge itself. Saratoga Springs is famous for its opulent historic inns, mineral baths and a rich schedule of cultural, sporting and social events. The Saratoga Spa State Park is home to mineral water that has for generations provided soothing therapy at the Roosevelt and Washington Bath Houses. Home of the National Museum of Racing and Thoroughbred Hall of Fame this town is know for its summer theaters, horse racing, restaurants and hot springs.
