You will find personal attention to your
travel needs and desires, combined with exceptionally
comfortable beds, large rooms, and a fine dining restaurant at
the Gregory House Country Inn and Restaurant. The Inn is
located in the outskirts of Albany and Troy, New York in the
small village of Averill Park.
The main building, built around 1830, was
once the summer home of financier Elias Gregory, and was
occupied by the Gregory family for many generations. The inn
part was built a mere twelve years ago, blending well with the
original structure and retaining the warmth and charm of its
Victorian heritage. The Gregory House now serves hungry and
weary travelers world-wide.
The Inn has twelve well-appointed guest
rooms, each with its own bathroom, air conditioner,
television, telephone, and clock radio. A newly furnished
common room with a big-screen television and overlooking the
in-ground pool is a place for guests to lounge and relax or
visit with old friends or new-found inn friends.
The restaurant consists of three dining
rooms in what was once the living room, bedroom and music
room. A fourth dining room has recently been renovated into
what is now now called the Contemporary Pub Room, where your
hosts serve appetizers, desserts, coffees, and of course, all
your favorite libations.
The extensive menu offers a wide range of
Italian dishes that will take your breath away at the mere
sight of them! The menu also includes a complete selection of
continental cuisine and a "weekly specials" feature
that chef and owner Alfonso Acampora uses to maximize his
excellent creative culinary skills.
The city of Albany and its surrounds is
replete with historic sites and cultural events, as well as
its feature as the Capital of New York State. The entire
Capital District is surrounded by the Adirondack, Catskill,
Helderberg Green, Taconic and Berkshire mountain ranges, all
of which offer an abundance of summer and winter activities.
Like the sage says: "Were it not for a
good dinner and a night's rest in a Country Inn, tomorrow
would be but another day." |
The Saratoga resort area, summer home of
the New York City Ballet Company at the Saratoga Performing
Arts Center, and Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston
Symphony Orchestra in Lenox, Massachusetts, are both less than
an hour's drive away.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the
oldest engineering school in the country, Russell Sage
College, Siena College and the New York State University at
Albany as well as the famed Emma Willard School for girls are
all less than one-half hour away.
The Gregory House has become an ideal place
for the business traveler also because of its proximity to
Albany area colleges, schools, and businesses. Meeting rooms
are available to small groups for partial- or full-day
meetings. |
