Windward House is a gracious Edwardian
seaside inn with a tradition of hospitality and comfort.
This restored inn is located in the heart
of the Historic District on Jackson Street, the oldest street
in Cape May. It was built during a period when rooms were
large, spacious, and airy with variety of windows that oblige
opportunities for ocean views.
Entering the Windward House, you are
greeted with a view of one of Cape May's finest collections of
stained and beveled glass. Marvelous doors and paneling of oak
and chestnut are complemented by rooms filled with
museum-quality antiques and the owner's special displays.
Sandy's china and glass displays and Owen's bisque bathing
beauties are just some of the many collections seen throughout
the house.
All bedrooms have antique queen- or
king-sized bed sets replicating the comfort and luxury the
Victorians loved in their bedrooms. Eight rooms are available,
all offering beautiful and historic accommodations combined
with the modern comforts of television, air conditioning,
refrigerators, and overhead fans. One English apartment, with
full kitchen and separate entrance, is also available. With
two bedrooms and one bath, it sleeps five comfortably. To
capture the summer sun and shade, the inn has three porches: a
wraparound porch filled with wicker, a second-floor porch
private to two special guest rooms, and a third-floor sundeck
for sunning and relaxing.
Breakfast at the Windward House is a
delight filled with fresh coffee, baked goods, and a delicious
morning entree. In cooler weather, the meal is served in the
dining room, where you may dine and catch up with fellow
guests. In the warmer months, breakfast is served buffet-style
to take wherever you may to enjoy the sun and scenery most.
Cape May, a national historic landmark, is
truly a year-round resort. A beautiful beach resides only a
half-block away from the inn. Shopping can be easily found
only a half block away as well. |
Those looking for a more active holiday may
enjoy boating, fishing, or bicycling, all available within a
short distance of the inn. Historians will love the historic
walking tours, and everyone will appreciate the fine dining
located near the Windward House.
Cape May has also become a center for Arts
and Entertainment with music, jazz and film festivals and two
Equity theaters. Christmas in Cape May is a special time
displaying houses trimmed with holiday finery and gaily lit
twinkling lights.
Through the years, The Windward House has
always entertained family and friends. Owen and Sandy want you
to feel as comfortable and relaxed as you would in your own
home. |
