The stillness of the mountains after a heavy snowfall play host to the sounds of laughter of happy downhill skiers echoing through the trees, and the crackling of the logs burning in the stone fireplace. During the Winter season, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, and the Franconia Inn's Cross-country Ski Touring Center with rentals, sales, and instruction make this a complete winter wonderland. Three other cross-country touring centers are within 25 minutes of the inn as well. Alpine skiing enthusiasts will be close to Cannon Mountain ski area and within 25 minutes of four other major ski areas.

The Franconia Inn is not just a winter ski lodge. . .as the snow melts away in the spring, four beautiful red clay tennis courts pop up and a large, sunny heated pool appears, seemingly out of nowhere. The cross-country skis, boots, and poles disappear to be replaced by horses, saddles, and stirrups. Cross-country trails are now scenic bridle or bike trails, and the friendly cross-country ski instructor is a proficient wrangler. The ski shop that looks like a barn returns to being a barn again. Where snowbanks once reigned, gardens now flourish.

The snow-covered airfield with its lonely wind sock becomes an active glider port, catering to both first-time passengers and experienced pilots. A clear, cool stream is perfect for trout fishing, and croquet, bicycles for touring, come alive. Within 15 minutes' drive are two 18-hole golf courses and four 9-hole courses. Finally, and most importantly, the formidable snowcapped White Mountains shed their blanket of snow and become a hiker's paradise.

The Inn's location provides easy accessibility to the villages of Franconia, Sugar Hill, and Easton, as well as the calm of quiet country life.
