Almond Raisin Hermit Squares

Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon all-spice

1 cup raisins

2 cups boiling water

1/4 pound butter

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 cup dark molasses

1 cup slivered or sliced almonds

Preheat oven to boil water in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and pour raisins into the hot water. Let stand for five minutes, strain and set aside. Cream butter in a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and beat well. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add molasses and beat well. With mixer on low speed, add the dry ingredients. Mix until well blended, scrape the sides of the bowl frequently. Add raisins and nuts and mix well. Spread evenly in a greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake 35-46 minutes at 350 degrees or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Slice when cooled.
