Get away from it all, relax, and rejuvenate at this
comfortable 1860's granite mansion located on 100 acres in the
midst of beautiful mountain vistas.
The Notchland Inn rests atop a knoll at the base of Mount
Bemis and looks out upon Mounts Hope and Crawford. The
Notchland Inn was named one of the Top 12 Romantic Inns in the
US recently.
Within the Notchland Inn, experience the comforts and
pleasures of attentive and friendly hospitality! Settle in to
one of seven Deluxe Rooms, two spacious Suites or four Premium
Suites, each individually appointed and all with wood-burning
fireplaces and private baths. The Premium Suites feature
premium baths (either a whirlpool and shower or soaking tub
and steam shower), and some have decks. Also available is a
cottage complete with 2-1/2 bedrooms, eat-in kitchen, sitting
room, two baths, whirlpool tub and sauna. The cottage does not
have a fireplace, which makes it particularly attractive to
people with children or pets.
The front parlor, designed by Gustav Stickley, a founder of
the Arts & Crafts movement, is a perfect place to sit by
the fire and read or to visit with other guests. The music
room draws guests to the piano or to the stereo to listen to
music they personally select. There's often a "puzzle-in-progress"
or a serious Scrabble game being waged.
The views of the Inn property and mountains are wonderful
from the sun-room... a great place to sip your coffee and read
that novel you've been saving. Ficus trees share this space
with blooming plants and a granite floating ball fountain.
On Wednesdays through Sundays, Notchland's wonderful
five-course dinner is served in a romantic, fireplaced dining
room looking out to the gazebo by the pond. The Chef at
Notchland has an elegant flair that respects the traditional
while exploring the excitement of international cuisines. A
different menu each day accentuates tempting choices of two
soups, two appetizers, three entrees, a salad and three
desserts. A selection of wines, beers, spirits and cordials
complements the menu.
Morning brings a bountiful country breakfast to fuel you for
the adventures of the day. Nature's wonders abound at
Notchland. 8,000 feet of Saco River frontage on the property
provides two of the area's best swimming holes! Nancy Pond
feeds a brook by the same name which cascades down Bemis
Mountain and enters the Saco just above a granite gorge. The
Saco River is great for fishing, mostly for trout.
The Davis Path, which ascends Mount Crawford and links to
other trails leading to the summit of Mount Washington, starts
just across the road from the Inn. Many other hiking trails
begin on and near Notchland's property. |
For those who are animal lovers, Abby, your hosts' Bernese
Mountain Dog, will greet you on arrival. She is, of course,
the most beautiful dog in the world and has a friendly and
warm disposition.
Other activities to be enjoyed on the property include
mountain biking, backwoods cross-country skiing, snowshoeing,
fishing and soaking in an outdoor hot tub which sits in a
gazebo by the pond.
Nearby attractions include: Crawford Notch; the Bretton
Woods, Attitash and Bear Peak ski areas; Bear Notch Ski
Touring; Jackson Ski Touring Foundation; Arethusa Falls;
Frankenstein Cliff; shopping, shopping and more shopping at
the antiques, arts & crafts, and factory outlet stores in
North Conway; the Mount Washington Auto Road & Cog
Railway; the Crawford Notch Line of Conway Scenic Rail and
more.
An operating Inn since the 1920's, Notchland's traditions of
hospitality are inextricably linked to Abel Crawford's
18th-century Mt. Crawford House which stood on this property,
and whose tavern is now our dining room... to the notch that
today is a monument to his family name... and to the history
of The White Mountains. |
