The 1900 Inn on Montford is an elegant bed and breakfast
providing lodging accommodations in the scenic splendor of the
North Carolina Smoky Mountains.
Built in 1900, it is the creation of architect Richard Sharp
Smith, who also designed the famous Biltmore House in
Asheville. This Victorian Arts and Crafts-style home,
furnished with English and American antiques dating all the
way back to 1730 is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
Twenty-six boxwoods frame the broad porch that spans the
front of the house. The interior of 1900 Inn on Montford is
decorated with Georgian and Victorian antiques and Persian
carpets, accenting splendidly the home's collections of
Victorian silver napkin rings, tea caddies, Staffordshire
china, maps, Baxter prints, and period cut glass. As you enter
the foyer, you will notice the large stone fireplace and
window seat. Beyond, you'll see the library with a painted
brick fireplace, as well as a large formal dining room, where
a full breakfast is served each morning. The Inn's lovely
sitting room features a double mantle fireplace with French
doors opening to the sun room, which is filled with seasonal
plants and potted palms.
All of the exquisite guest rooms have private en suite
baths, king-sized beds, and fireplaces. All baths have
showers. Seven bathrooms feature whirlpool baths, and one
boasts an authentic clawfoot tub. All rooms have telephones
with data ports and high-speed wired and wireless Internet
access.
Griffin Cottage, the new carriage house, offers the ultimate
in private, romantic accommodations. The two ground floor
rooms have private enclosed gardens, while the second floor,
1,303 square foot suite, The Cloisters, is the most luxurious
accommodation in Asheville. This guest suite comes with a 50"
plasma HDTV with surround sound, fireplace and whirlpool tub
for two.
Breakfast is served each morning, with a choice of a savory
or sweet course, such as shirred eggs, baked tomatoes filled
with eggs and Brie, Bavarian puff pancakes, raspberry-filled
French toast, and oven danishes. |
Afterwards, guests are invited to relax on the gracious
veranda or in the living room or library. Listen to music or
watch television in the sunroom, or explore the collection of
antiques abundant throughout the home.
Asheville and the surrounding area of North Carolina's Smoky
Mountains is packed with things to see and do. Visit the
Biltmore Estate or one of the arts and crafts centers in
Asheville. Go for a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and
stop for a picnic along one of the road's breathtaking scenic
overlooks. Visit the Cherokee Indian Reservation or go white
water rafting down one of the exciting and beautiful rivers of
the western Carolinas. The area also offers opportunities in
tennis, golf, hiking, biking, and antiquing.
