| The
western tip of North Carolina is famous for its mountain
lakes, white water rafting, hundreds of miles of trails and
all the other activities sought after by those wishing to
taste a bit of nature in its unspoiled state. The town of
Cherokee in Swain county is at the southern end of the
Cherokee Indian Reservation (and its new casino for those
who feel lucky). To the west in southwestern tip of Swain
county is the world famous Nantahala Gorge. The Appalachian
mountain chain runs through the western part of the state.
The highest peak, Mount Mitchell, in Yancey County, is 6,684
feet high, making it the tallest along the eastern coast of
the U.S. In Brasstown, you will find mountain music
concerts, dancing, and crafts classes at John C. Campbell
Folk School. Rafting, horseback riding, golf,
fishing,
swimming, boating, and canoeing are all pursuits suited to
this area. |
