The Northern
Heartland of North Carolina is made up of gently rolling
foothills and also boasts of one of the most dynamic
economies in the U.S. Raleigh, the state capital, as well
as Durham, Chapel Hill, Rocky Mount and Goldsboro (home of
Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base) and the Research Triangle
are the states largest cities. Here you will find
the biggest financial institutions, great universities,
industrial centers, textile and furniture factories,
shopping meccas, top golf courses, historic sites and
entertainment offerings. From Cliffs of the Neuse State
Park near Goldsboro in the south to Kerr Reservoir State
Recreation Area near Henderson in the north, the Northern
Heartland has a good share of North Carolina's lakes and
rivers. History prevails at the corn maze in Halifax. A
four-acre maze designed to look like a map of Halifax
County features paths that follow the countys
highways and back roads. |
