area holds the cities of Winston-Salem, Greensboro,
Burlington, High Point and Ashboro, all famous for many
major manufacturers of the 20th century. This area also has
an abundance of historically significant sites. Old Salem is
just off US-52 in Winston-Salem and can carry you back to
the previous century as you relax your way through the old
buildings replete with folks in early-day costumes and
relating interesting stories about the former occupants and
pioneers. Pilot Mountain State Park and surrounding area
offers fishing,
boating, hiking,
golf,
horseback riding, tubing, hot air balloon and airplane rides
around the mountain. The town of Pilot Mountain is better
known as "Mt. Pilot" from the famed television
comedy The Andy Griffith Show. Other area attractions
