Built with 100-year-old, hand-hewn logs taken from old barns
and cabins in the Smoky Mountain Region, the River Lodge Bed
and Breakfast provides North Carolina mountain lodging while
holding a character all its own. You can experience rustic
elegance at its best in a unique structure tucked in the Blue
Ridge Mountains on a river bend.
The lodge sits on six acres of rolling mounds of manicured
fields and streams that take you to the frontage of the
Tuckasegee River. A cascading waterfall flows along side the
inn while rhododendron, hemlocks, and ferns line a long
driveway that winds to the entrance of the lodge. You can
enjoy the view of the mountains from every direction!
As you enter through an oversized front door made of wormy
chestnut, you will find yourself looking upon a massive stone
fireplace which stands boldly in the great room. Its hearth
beckons you to sit and stare at a glowing fire that dances
before you. An eclectic blend of furnishings encourage you to
relax and enjoy surroundings that warm your body and soul. For
entertainment, an antique Brunswick billiard table spaciously
stands in the great room. Enjoy a good game of chess on the
game table, listen to the music, or peruse the books and works
of art. An American Indian motif throughout compliment unique
antiques and crafts.
The innkeepers have paid much attention and detail in all
the guest accommodations. Queen-sized, mountain-made log beds
dressed with plush pillows and cozy comforters will help you
get a good night's sleep. Each room features extraordinary
accessories, wild life wood carvings, American Indian prints,
mission oak, twig, and turn-of-the-century furnishings.
Accommodations may have Cathedral beamed ceilings, views of
the forest and meadow and some have the added splendor of a
balcony.
Several private baths feature claw foot tubs and brass
fixtures, as well as separate showers. Pedestal sinks that
take you back in time suggest old-world charm with new-world
conveniences. The suite offers a whirlpool for two and some
guestrooms feature large showers for two. Scented soaps, plush
towels and warm bright colors fill the rooms to make your
bathing experience a delightful one. All the ceilings are
wainscoted and the floors are made with local quarry stone.
The River Lodge invites you to sit on its porches and
balconies to enjoy the river, waterfall, and streams that
surround you in this mountain hideaway. |
Your accommodations include a full country breakfast served
in the dining room. Weather permitting, breakfast can be
served outdoors on the breakfast patio which overlooks the
inn's waterfall and the river. Wake up to freshly ground,
perked coffee and specially selected teas as a starter. A
three-course breakfast may consist of baked pear stuffed with
almonds and bits of fruit atop a pear preserve, homemade
muffins or biscuits, and Eggs Benedict a la Croissant. Enjoy
fresh baked hams, sausages and hickory-smoked bacon as an
accompaniment to your entree.
Six hundred feet of riverfront lends itself for riverside
activity throughout the day. Fishing is a splendorous sport
here, allowing visitors to take in both the scenery and a
great catch. Surrounding attractions abound as well such as
the Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway.
Rafting, skiing and Smoky Mountains scenic train rides all
await. If you are feeling lucky, Harrah's Casino is nearby for
a game of black jack or a spin on the slots. |
