Country Region is named after Charlie M. Russell who came to
Montana as a young man in the late 1800s. As a working
cowboy and ranch hand he fell in love with the beauty and
majesty of this region which he captured in his now renown
art work. His drawings and paintings the landscape and
people of the region, capturing the lives of the Plains
Indians and early explorers on canvas. His work has left a
rich legacy for those interested in Montana's early history.
The way of life depicted in Russell's art is now gone, but
the landscape remains much the same as it was in his time.
The mountains and rivers of his paintings are still ready to
explore and enjoy. The best way to view it is by fishing,
biking, boating, hiking, camping, golfing, horseback riding,
white-water rafting, swimming or just about any other
outdoor activity you can think of. If you like a lot of
variety with your outdoor recreation, Russell Country is
your ideal vacation spot. |
